Another friend of ours, Sara Doneen, was a cake decorator and she agreed to teach a few of us the art. Every week we'd meet and decorate cakes we had made. Our families loved our new hobby because each week they had a delicious theme cake to eat. As Easter approached Sara decided it would be a good project to make Sugar Eggs. The kind that you look in and see a picture. The first class was to make the sugar egg in molds then cut in half and hollow out. Class time was over so Nola said she'd save our eggs until the following week. One morning she was fixing breakfast and kept smelling something sweet like caramel, but she couldn't figure out what it was. Until she realized the oven was on and that is where she had stored the sugar eggs. When she opened the door she found brown slightly burnt crystalized sugar eggs smelling very much like cotton candy. Needless, to say she felt terrible but we all got a good laugh over it and ended up making beautiful sugar eggs just in time for Easter. It does seem many of our hobbies involved food.
