Dear David, I’ve been in Palo Alto since late January and only just learned of Nola’s passing. My heart goes out to you. You and Nola were such a devoted couple; it’s hard to think of you without her. I’m sure you are bravely carrying on, but it can’t be easy. I always enjoyed Nola—her bright smile, her cheerful, hardy attitude laced with a knowing of life’s ironies. In my difficult days with Dr. Cooper, I knew she was my friend and supported me even though many of her colleagues saw me as no friend of Cowell Student Health. At one time I thought of buying her childhood home on Rice Lane. She urged me to think twice because it needed a lot of work. I took her counsel to heart, with appreciation.
